About Me

My name is Jess. I am 23 years old. I used to live in a small suburb in South Australia with my boyfriend, James. In December 2012 James was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime, to move to a remote aboriginal community in Western Australia to live and work. As his job at the time was unstable and we were under big financial stress, we decided to pack up and go.

When we got out here I had no idea what I was going to do. I wanted to work at the school, so on my birthday in February 2013, I wandered over to the school and spoke to the principal about wanting to work there, I walked out with a full time job! I now work at the Jameson Campus of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands School as an Education Assistant and after school hours I am also their cleaner.

In July 2013, James and I took a holiday and went back to Adelaide. On Friday July 12th 2013 James took me out to dinner to a place called Mick O'Sheas. It is an Irish pub in Hackham, South Australia. It is also the place we went for our first date. He was a true gentleman, he walked around and opened my door for me and as I stepped out he grabbed hold of my hands, gave me a kiss and dropped down on one knee. He presented me with a gorgeous white gold solitary diamond engagement ring and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes!

James and I at him Mum's place on the night of our engagement.

I am a great lover of all creatures great and small, so you can expect to see the odd appearance of my 4 cats and 2 dogs in this blog. I also have a tendency to "steal" suffering animals from the community to nurse back to health and re home in Adelaide when we take our 6 monthly trips back.

Already in the 11 months we have been out here, James and I have experienced some wonderful and terrible things. I hope to be able to capture these experiences and share them with you.

Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you enjoy reading about our wacky adventures and whatnot.
